Toulouse – in retrospect

Montpellier, July 26th 2024

Left Toulouse yesterday after two calm days there. It was such a nice city to stroll around in, with small winding roads making turning each corner a little surprise.

This is a prosperous city, with the technology/aviation/space industries fuelling the economy. Clean and orderly, but also cosmopolitan.

Local maps and short explanations of the sights were everywhere

I liked how waiters and staff answered my stuttering french in french, and did not switch to english, as they would do in most tourist cities.

The Garonne river has formed the city, and the riverside promenades are filled with locals and tourists alike.

On my last day I got to see the sluices and canals making the river still navigable by smaller boats.

And it took me nearly 48 hours to finally get a picture of the Pont Neuf I was happy with.

As always – the «new bridge» is the oldest one

And then the food – as always in France this is great, and again thanks to Alex for the gourmet tour mixing sightseeing with regional specialities.

So now, well into my last stop in Montpellier, looking back I say it is a city truly worth visiting!
