Tokyo – picnic for the masses

Tokyo, March 29th 2026

Two words are central; Sakura, which is the cherry blossom period, and Hamami, which is the name of the traditional picnic under the said trees.

So I should have picked another day and another time of day to go to Yoyogi Park – sunday is definately picnic day!

Along the park there is a small Community of Rock&Roll enthusiasts.

Blue mats are placed under the trees, and here and there it seemed like you could steal a spot.

Beautiful trees and all that – but very crowded.

Close by the park I found a festival with food stalls, clothes shops and a lot of music – and it was partytime even this early in the afternoon.

After dinner I passed by more cherry blossom trees in a much more relaxed area.

Last evening in Tokyo for now – heading for Osaka tomorrow.
