Bangkok – back alleys and reclining Buddha

Bangkok, January 12th 2026

Morning stroll along the canals and small back alleys – surprises around every corner.

Each district and quarter seem to have their own business focus – such as this lottery vendor consentration.

Jim Thompson is credited to revive the Thailand silk industry, and this company currently provides fabrics to many luxury hotels in the world.

This was his house – and his mysterious disappearance in the jungle in 1967 has surely added to the brand interest.

All modes of transport in Bangkok – including old buses which navigate the crazy traffic.

Back in Chinatown, where old markets and intagrammable cafes live side by side in a hurried neighborhood.

However, just across the river the atmosphere is completely different, much calmer, but with some great food gems.

This zebra themed corner temple was close to the hotel, one can only speculate why this animal was chosen.

Nighttime, and another temple visit, this time to the reclining Buddha. Nice complex, but also cute ticket stall kittens.
