Lille, July 19th 2025
Arrived directly from London via Eurostar under the English Channel, swift and efficient, directly to Lille centre. A bit rainy on arrival.

The weather cleared up while I was having a lovely lunch, so I decided to go to the citadel.

Lille is connected to waterways north and south by Canal de la deûle, which runs past the citadel.

Grand Place is the pride of Lille, and my hotel has a nice roof terrace overlooking it, a perfect spot for a blog update.

So what about this «10 out of 10». Well, Lille is the 10th biggest city in France, and with this I have visited them all:
- Paris – Paris – new discoveries in a big city
- Marseille – Marseille – langs vannkanten
- Lyon – Lyon – Old town and Paul Bocuse student food
- Toulouse – Toulouse – street walking
- Nice – Nice i bakspeilet
- Nantes – went there in 2016, no blog then…
- Strasbourg – Strasbourg – along the canals
- Bourdeaux – Bordeaux – streets & sights
- Montpellier – Montpellier – last stop
- Lille
Then it is debatable if Marne La Valée is a separate town or a Pris suburb, and if Rouen is bigger than Lille. But that is a good discussion for another blog post…
Looking forward to exploring more of Lille tomorrow.
