London – morning walks

London, July 16th 2025

Not much is left of the Roman Londonium, but a few ruins of ancient city walls can be seen north of St. Pauls Cathedral, among modern buildings with steel, glass and concrete.

It fell into decay after the Roman period, but was still in use as the defensive city wall up to the 17th century.

The tower on the left was built as part of the wall in the medieval times

St. Pauls Cathedral is a magnificent church in the middle of the city, with a small park.

Closer to the city centre is Lincoln’s Inn, a centre for training of lawyers since the 13th century.

It lies in calm surroundings with several nice buildings around it, and with several «old» signs.

There is also a small chapel on top of archways where – in medieval times – mothers who could not take care of their babies could leave them.

The Inn had an orphanage and took care of these children, and all of them got Lincoln as their surname.

My course does not start before 1030 in the morning, so every I have plenty of time to enjoy breakfast before attending class.

The school café is of really high quality – their croissants are dangerously delicious!
