Epernay, July 14th 2024
Start of vacation! Morning flight to Paris yesterday – I had time for a quick stop with a light lunch in Paris before heading for Epernay.

Epernay is just over an hour by train, northeast of Paris. Trains run like clockwork in France!

Epernay is a small town, very walkable (and drinkable). The town hall garden is a beautiful and secluded place.

Along Avenue de Champagne there are an abundance of outdoor courtyards and cozy indoor spaces offering light food and Champagne tastings.

I had my share of tastings, so many Champagnes I have yet to try!
The evening ended with a lovely meal in one of the brasseries in the city center – even though there is no ocean in sight the seafood was great!

Long day yesterday, so settled in early, and went for a morning trip today up to the Champagne plots that border the town.

Navigating from the streets to the plots can take you on adventurous paths – narrow pathways will get you there!

I also stumbled upon this cool garden in the outskirts, seemed like a part of a farm…

The morning view back towards Epernay made the climb worth it – glad I did it early in the morning!

After the walk I had a salad lunch – salads in France are veritable meals.

Bastille Day today, and I have already understood that military parades are not the thing in this town – looking forward to celebrating later!
