Singapore – urban expensive modernity

Singapore, March 1st 2024

This is a city of contrasts, where one one hand you have the local neighborhoods where you can get food for 1,5 Singapore dollars, and then on the other hand the most expensive and iconic places where you can spend 39 Singapore dollars on a single drink.

Raffles Hotel – the most iconic hotel in Singapore
Yes – they charge 39 SGD for this drink, and yes – I paid to get one…
Lantern bar – with an excellent evening view of Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Having travelled through some very cheap parts of south east Asia, coming here is like coming home to Norway – but only cost-wise.

Atlas Bar – very Gotham City – and consistently on the top 50 bars of the world
Satay street – they close down an entire street for this

At the end of a long journey it is also a bit relaxing just to sit down in a nice chair and have a look at the lovely view, but for me the things that will stick is not this – it is the unique smaller and cheaper places which offers something you cannot find at home.

Tonight is our flight back to Europe, my intention is to make some summary blog posts about this trip in a few days, so stay tuned.
