Luang Prabang – first afternoon and morning

Luang Prabang, Laos, February 13th 2024

As we bid farewell to the enchanting landscapes of Siem Reap, our journey took to the skies, carrying us towards Luang Prabang. The transition from the vibrant energy of Cambodia’s cultural hub to the tranquil allure of Laos held the promise of a new chapter in our adventure.

Leaving the bustling charm of Siem Reap behind, our plane touched down on the tarmac of a small airport literally within the town border, unveiling the next chapter of our Indochina adventure. The air was different here, carrying whispers of a serene escapade waiting to unfold in Luang Prabang.

Our hotel is in a calm street just of the main street, and we have our own lush garden to relax in.

Once the capital of Laos and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Luang Prabang unfolds its story through well-preserved temples, French colonial architecture, and a sense of tranquility that permeates every corner.

As the sun began its descent, we found ourselves immersed in the enchanting aura of Luang Prabang. An evening walk through the city’s charming streets led us to the vibrant night market. The stalls, adorned with local crafts and textiles, painted a colorful picture against the twilight sky.

We strolled leisurely, enchanted by the rhythmic hum of the market, and eventually settled into dinner at «do it yourself» barbeque restaurant, savoring some spicy and some not so spicy flavors of Laos.

The following morning, I had a tranquil sunrise walk along the riverbanks. As the first light of sun started to shine, with the city was waking up, I embraced the serene ambiance.

Every morning there is an alms giving ceremony, where monks and novices strolls the streets, with locals and tourists filling their food baskets with food.

The short walk ended in a coffee shop with a unique charm and an amazing view over the Mekong river bathed in the morning sunlight.

Here, the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans wafted through the air, inviting me to indulge in a morning cup brewed to perfection.

This morning we will embark on a city tour, followed by an afternoon trip to the Kuang Si waterfalls.
